SAS in action behind Iraqi lines archives.tcm.ie/breakingnews/2003/03/20/story92430.asp2:57:57 PM Elite British special forces have been in action behind Iraqi lines, Britain's Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon indicated today. In a Commons statement, Mr Hoon told British MPs that British forces were “already engaged in certain military operations.” In line with normal practice, the Ministry of Defence would only say that it did not comment on special forces. However, by not disclosing the nature of the operations or the forces involved, Mr Hoon clearly signalled that they were either SAS or Special Boat Service. In the last Gulf war, the SAS mounted a series of daring missions to destroy Iraqi Scud missile launchers on the ground. They could also be used to establish forward observation posts to spot targets and guide in coalition warplanes.
