Can someone tell me when the then Lieutenant Colonel Cedric Delves, DSO, The Devonshire and Dorset Regiment stopped being the CO of the Regiment.

I have a potential employee who has shown me a Regiment certificate that I believe is false and is signed by Lt. Col. Delves in Jan. 1995. The signature is not real but a computer font that makes it look like writing.

Your help would be appreciated.

My experience is that there have been ten times the number of ex-S.A.S. men in civilian life than those who had ever served with the Regiment, badged or otherwise. Why would this chap show you a certificate at all? All you need as a potential employer is his discharge book with his rating on it, and his employment qualifications note. This is a red book, not a ‘certificate’, and should be signed by his OC mother unit. Heyho...

Back in the early 2000's I was challenged by a fat slob in my local boozer sitting at the bar to show him proof that I had served in the Regiment (much to my resentment he had been informed by a serving off-duty copper who was also present). He offered to pay me £500 if I would bring and show him my 'red book'. As much as I could really have done with the money at the time, I told him I needed to prove nothing and told him where to shove his money. The copper next to me suddenly disappeared and while I took my time to finish my pint the slob sat glued to his stool and seemed to pretend he had not heard me. Outside I expected a confrontation but there was no-one in sight.

People like that slob feed off the WM's who abuse the Regiment's name and insignia. Unfortunately they also include those who did serve in the Regiment but have chosen to make money out of the experience. In my opinion, anyone who goes looking for trouble and profits by it is a disgrace to all those members of the Regiment who have served in it quietly, effectively, with honour and have no illusions about what it means to knowingly put yourself in danger and succeed nevertheless in unsung circumstances. The only things that matter are that they get the job done and keep their mouths shut.
